Regional cooperation

The cities of Wuppertal, Solingen and Remscheid come together to form the economic region “Bergisches Städtedreieck” (city triangle).

Müngsten Viaduct in the centre of the city triangle. It is the highest railway bridge in Europe.

The Bergisches Städtedreieck has around 640.000 inhabitants and over 37.000 companies. Due to its central location in North Rhine-Westphalia, the region offers an excellent infrastructure. In addition, it offers a charming landscape, a lively cultural scene, a connection to all important transport facilities and an exciting living and business environment, which is sovereignly positioned between the Rhine and Ruhr axes.
The Bergisches Städtedreieck entrepreneurial region stands for regional economic and political cooperation between the three cities of Wuppertal, Solingen and Remscheid as well as joint location communication.

The Bergische Structural and Economic Development Corporation forms the interface of regional cooperation. Her work focuses on the topics of business development, tourism, regional marketing as well as labor market and. The focus is on strategies and projects with regional added value, which are initiated, planned and implemented by the BSW.

Center of automotive and mobility
Wuppertal is also a member of the automotiveland.nrw association, which was founded in April 2019 by companies, facilities and institutions from the region. He deals with topics on the mobility of the future. The aim is to secure growth and employment in the automotive and mobility industry against the background of structural change through digitization and globalization.
The competence center for automobile driving also belongs to the association.


Another regional project is Bergisch.Smart.Mobility. In the Bergisches Städtedreieck, the university is researching the use of artificial intelligence in mobility concepts with various project partners.
